New CHET ATKINS interview to appear in January FINGERSTYLE GUITAR magazine

Thursday December 2, 1999

NASHVILLE, Tenn.

Fingerstyle Guitar Magazine will feature a new article on Chet in its first issue of the year 2000.

The story will be written by Nashville-based Bill Piburn, a guitarist and arranger who has authored transcriptions of fingerstyle music for several printed books published by Mel Bay Publications. Bill has recently released his first solo CD on the Jazz Heritage label.

"I realized going in that Chet has been asked so many question over the years and I really wanted to get some new insights from him. I tried extra hard not to ask the obvious expected interview questions," said Bill Piburn, "I think what you'll see in the interview is a man whose musical knowledge and scope of influence transcended the guitar. We spent a good amount of time talking about musicians other than guitarists that have influenced Chet - folks you wouldn't normally think of, like violinist Jascha Heifitz and jazz pianist Art Tatum."

Photographer Brenda McClaren was brought in to take photos of Chet for the story, and the pictures include a photo of Chet behind his desk with his Del Vecchio guitar.

The January 2000 issue is scheduled to be on newstands and in bookstores by late December.
