I fell for the Atkins style when I was about fourteen. I was walking past a record store that happened to be playing "Freight Train". I doubled back and bought the album " The Best of Chet Atkins".

Throughout the following years I collected 70 of Chet's albums. (I now have almost all of his albums and CDs, thanks to the internet.) I live in Singapore, you see, so it's not too easy to get all of his albums.

One album that will always be cherished is "Christmas With Chet Atkins". This story affirms the generosity of Chet Atkins. It was around Christmas and I had exhausted all record stores for the album with no luck. So I wrote to Chet's secretary Carolyn Campbell to see if I could purchase one. The best Christmas gift I could ever have was when just before Christmas, I received a package from Chet's office. In it was a complimentary "Christmas With Chet Atkins" and an autographed pic of Chet. What a Christmas!! What a nice man! Years later, my family arranged a surprise telephone call from the Man himself to wish me happy birthday. Needless to say, I was at a lost for words. With his busy schedule, the legend even had the time to call someone as far away as Singapore.

God bless you, Chet Atkins!
