What do you mean by combining nylon strings?
Are we talking about the first three strings or the low strings?
I've always been intrigued by this fact, although I'm sure the first three strings Chet used are made of metal.

Paolo, I believe Chet used nylon strings for the 3 bass strings, steel for the trebles. There was a posting several years ago on the Chetboard of a set of strings Chet had given to the poster giving the gauges of each string. If you look at “Me and my Guitars” there’s a photo of Chet’s Del Vecchio and you can see that the bass string tuners are for nylon strings, the treble tuners are for steel.

A long time ago Chet said he used the lightest silk and steel strings he could find.I have always used GHS silk and steel # 345.

I like the sound too! It makes you want to keep buying them but they are expensive and hard to find. Al

I have always used Silk and Steel strings never worried about the brand just whatever I can find in a music store. They sound great to me and give the Del Vecchio sound.
