The Chetboard

I know we find the issue of having to wait to view our posts to be a drag.
So, in response to it many have said "if it continues, I'm leaving the board."

This is kinda like people who don't vote and complain that a measure they liked didn't pass.

The Chetboard is what it is. There are no other sites specifically designed to cover the man and his effect on guitaring and the music industry.

It's all well and good to put your YouTube bit to share and hope to get strokes but if it dies it won't be because of the awkward delay in postings. It will be because of lack of participation, lack of exchanging ideas, trading nuggets of information on the Life and Times or working out guitar pieces micro-dissecting guitars and how to make them play better.
That part is up to you.

Having said that, I know Tom Redmond has a tough job being site monitor. My suggestion would be to perhaps delegate some of that duty to others so the site can be updated more frequently than every few days (as sometimes is the case.)'

So it's a two part solution. It's up to the members to make it more interesting and up to the Front Office to grease the rails to make it a smoother operation.

Otherwise the Troll wins.

I think the lack of participation is directly related to the delay on posting. Its like playing chess by mail....just not the same as getting immediate response.

As far as trolls winning, I don't think trolls were the problem. It was our own board members who would go bananas whenever something was posted that they didn't like, and it disrupted the board. Better to ignore those posts than do a "me too" response.

I agree with you, George. I don't want to lose the benefits offered with this forum. The general YouTube and FaceBook may not catch everyone who would otherwise be interested.

While I think I understand the reasoning behind the post approval, it definitely is a detriment. The troll is the reason behind the delayed posting. I agree with George that the set in stone opinions of many of our members, including me on a lot of things, also is a turn off for our potential younger members. The Chetboard is made up primarily of old men, like me, and we have our opinions and a short fuse. The Chetboard is here at the consent of the Chet Estate. If the Chetboard gets to be full of mud slinging and personal attacks, the Estate will order it shut down. I have a feeling that it came very close because of the troll, and our infighting, mostly with the troll and his followers. The Chetboard is an unequaled resource for the history of Chet and his music, and for his die hard fans to discuss such. I will admit that my posts are less frequent on here because someone else is usually smarter. But, it's still a great place.

Same here. I agree that delays in posts showing up do tend to discourage participation. I can understand hestation about continuing but interest still seems to be here and am hopeful. Looking in most days to see how things go.

My only problem with the delay is that my method of checking the Chetboard is to scan the list of threads for postings made at a date/time later than my last look. Sometimes it appears that earlier postings that I have already read are listed as being more recent than newer posts, so I skip that thread only to find out later that I had missed a posting in a thread. That's more due to my idiosyncratic approach to viewing the Chetboard, though.

This board holds us together. Is there any other forum that can do that? Let me know and I'm there!

I've been trying to refrain from saying anything here, because it often opens up the proverbial pandora's box!!! So this is not a comment on posting delay. I just want to say how much a appreciate how much time and effort Tom Redmond spends in maintaining this board. Policy decisions must be made and executed. They are not always popular but in the end this forum is still running after many years... and it just didn't happen out of the blue! That's how I feel. Thank you Tom.
