The Chetboard

I was in iTunes, and came across a rare tune: Jerry's original arrangement of "Yakety Axe". It is on a Reader's Digest compilation called "Guitar Masters: Chet Atkins, Jerry Reed and Others".

It also has Jerry doing "King of the Road".

It also has three tunes by Chet marked as "Exclusive to Reader's Digest": Jalousie, a version of Peanut Vendor on nylon string guitar, and "Here, There, and Everywhere".

I haven't listened to the Joe Edwards and Wayne Moss cuts yet.

Anyway, thought some of you might be interested.

It´s fun listening to samples of the recordings by Pete Wade and Wayne Moss, otherwise known as first class rhythm guitarists. Hidden talents in a way.

Those tunes by Chet came from a 1969 Readers Digest 4-album set called Golden Guitar Magic. Jerry was not on it but Lenny Breau was including Joe Edwards,Jorge Morel,Los Indios Tabajaras,Wayne Moss and others.

I got wind of this when I heard Chet playing Midnight on the radio. I had never heard the song before but I was pretty sure it was Chet. I called the radio station which led me to calling Readers Digest and ordering the set.

Midnight was recorded by Ray Charles on Volume 2 of his Platinum winning Modern Sounds in Country and Western Music around 1962. The album credits both Chet and Boudleaux - Bryant as the writers.

I have that set of albums. good stuff. glad at least some of it is out digitally.
