More TablEdit

TablEdit is really working for me except for one thing. As far as I can tell, there's no way to control whether a note is written as a sharp or flat. For instance, if I'm writing something in the key of C, if I need to write an E flat note, it comes out as D sharp instead. That may seem like a nit picky thing but for someone that is a good reader were to read the notation instead of the tablature, it's important to write E flat at times instead of D sharp and vice versa as it's easier to read in standard notation that way.

Is it possible to to control whether a note is written as a sharp or flat with TablEdit. Also, as far as I can tell, there's no way to write a nore as a "double flat" or "double sharp." Does that feature exist on TablEdit? These may seem like nit picky things but since I'm trying to write some material on fretboard theory, it seems even more appropriate to keep the sharps and flats in order ( and even use double flat or double sharp where appropriate.)

Any input would be appreciated.

I think I saw an answer to this in the yahoo tabledit group. Post the question there and I bet you get a quick answer.

If you are working in a flat signature it will show notes a natural or flats
If you are working in C or a sharpened signature it will show the notes natural or as a sharps.
However, you can cause it to artificially show a flat by pressing the flat button at the top on the notes menu

Open a new file, signature C, guitar, try this:

1) Show both notations (File>Options), clicking both Notation and Tablature
2) Show the Notes menu at the top - clicking Display>Pallettes>Notes
3 At the Tablature Score, write a 4 on the B, or 2nd string.flat.
4) Click on the flat button on the notes menu

Double flats are above my pay grade. Hope this helps...it's a great program with many nuances.

Following Paul's lead I experimented. If you select a natural note and then use the flat button on the note pallette it will display in the notation as one step higher double flatted. On screen the double flat is a little blurry but it prints clearly. The double flat is in parens, which I don't recall seeing in standard notation, but I don't recall a lot! On the Tabledit webpage there is a Tutorial entitled something like "producing publication quality scores". Lots of details there. Good luck.

Ron and Paul, thanks for your help. Paul, you earned your pay as far as I'm concerned but unfortunately all I can pay is a great big thank you. Thanks again to both for your input!
