paperbak

Postby jbqjason » Thu Sep 29, 2011 2:33 pm

have a 1962 melbay chet atkins paperback. it is blueish green with chet at the right and a outline of a guitar with 1.50 in the middle of it. how to play it will be at the top of the guitar... my question is this. i have seen two paperbacks, one with 2.00 in the middle and then mine 1.50 in the middle. they r both the same everywhere else. i have seen the 2.00 one on amazon selling for alot of money and i was wondering is mine a rare one because of the 1.50 print or is it common? is it worth anything?

I think it depends on the issue. I have Volume 1 & Volume 2. On Volume 1, I have the one marked $1.50 and at the bottom, Mel Bay Publications is at Kirkwood, Missouri. I also have one with a $2.00 sticker and the logo still says Kirkwood at the bottom but different. I have a third copy with $2.00 on the front and Mel Bay Productions is in Pacific, Missouri. Volume 2 has $1.50 and Kirkwood, Missouri on one and $2.50 and Pacific, Missouri on the other. I suspect there was a later printing. As to the value, I don't think one would necessarily be worth more than the other, since the material inside is exactly the same.

Can you post a photo of your paperbacks? I have a number of CA publications but your discription is kind of vague. Are they instructional books or a slick, magazine type booklet?

Thanks,
David

I checked on ebay and there is a Guitar Method book from the same time frame selling for about $25.00. I would think that would be a top price for these sets. I have seen them listed quite a bit on ebay. I don't think what issue it is makes all that much difference. $600.00 is definitely way too much to pay for it.
