Forty Miles Of Bad Road

Postby Richard Hudson » Fri Aug 26, 2011 8:04 pm

Recently I acquired one of the new Duane Eddy Gretsch Guitars, G6120DE. It is a stunningly beautiful guitar. The color, they call it Desert Sunrise, but it is a perfect fit. Duane will always be a big Chet Atkins fan, as we all are. I hear that Chet didn't care for the dynasonic pickups, and I also heard that he said that Duane was the only one that could get a good tone out of them. Personally, I liked the tunes that Chet played on his first guitars with the dynasonics and I liked the way he sounded. Of course, Chet always sounded good, no matter what he played.

This tune, Forty Miles Of Bad Road, is strictly a Duane Eddy tune. I used a professional backing track, not my own, but the incredible tone of the guitar comes through. It sustains forever. The amp is my Parkel 25L15. I am working on a couple of Chet tunes that I will post later, but I hope it is okay for me to share this one with you.

Thanks so much.

Very nice Richard. Broadway sound has ordered one and Amy is supposed to let me know when it comes in. I will have to drive from NW Indiana down to Knoxville to check it out. How does the special taper neck of the DE compare with a normal 6120? I have a 6120 blueburst I bought 3 years ago at CAAS. I had a RMC synth access pickup system built into it.

Thank you, Roger. You're my pal. Bill I don't have another 6120 to compare, but this neck suits me to a "t." You will be better able to make a judgement when you get it in your own hands.

Thanks for listening.

You sure nailed the DE sound on that new guitar Richard. That sure brings back memories. Duane was one of my favorites growing up... I had all his LPs.. Great. Thanks.

Richard, now you need to do a Duane Eddy CD. That was great.
