Chet Honored In Georgia

Postby bill_h » Mon Jul 25, 2011 12:56 am

This may be old news to some but I just found out today that Interstate 185 that runs through Columbus,GA is named "Chet Atkins Parkway." I saw it with my own two eyes. My travels as a truck driver took me through Columbus today and as soon as I got on I 185, there was the sign commemorating Chet. Obviously someone in the GA Dept. of Transportation knows who lived in the area during part of his childhood!

I think they did that while Chet was still alive. Seems like there was something about him going out there for the dedication ceremony.

Wasn't there something about an elementary school that he attended there once as a child and the community
was honoring him?
