Some tunes

Postby NSM » Wed Jul 13, 2011 8:54 am

I recently decided that it was time for a new guitar - my spine was telling me I needed something lighter in weight! I couldn't find a 'professional' model Gretsch that was light enough so I got myself a G5122, and had the pickups replaced with TV Jones Classics - I'm happy with both the feel and the sound. I've owned 4 different pro model Gretsches in the past and I was reluctant to buy the G5122 at first; I saw it as a step down, but now that I have it, I think I made the right move, I can play a lot longer before my back starts acting up.

I've recorded a few things with it....some of them I've put into my 'box.net' account...here they are in descending order of 'Chetness' :)

http://www.box.net/shared/ui95vn8seqxevcfv8dyi - a version of 'Liebestraum' based to a large extent on Chet and Jerry's version for it's over all 'feel'

http://www.box.net/shared/43e2r3sx1t6d97169qi1 - 'Sleepwalk'

http://www.box.net/shared/i5ajoqbhxatnzp0vk6dj - 'Always'

http://www.box.net/shared/tq14ek9yo2ay74ckqhxj - 'Cherokee' - this version owes little to Chet to be honest, it's more in a kind of Joe Pass vein

I really enjoyed all of these tunes, but your Sleepwalk was one of the best versions I've heard. That was great. You had a great tone with that guitar, too. I'd like to hear more of your songs someday. Thanks for the post.

That's some good stuff, Sir. That "cheap" Gretsch sounds pretty good.

Very nice playing! Really enjoyed it! It's in the hands not the guitar, you've shown that. Thankyou for your inspiration, Al
