Mr. Sandman- Chet's 1954 TV version

Postby Len R » Sat Apr 23, 2011 11:31 am

This youtube clip of Chet playing Mr. Sandman has always been one of my favorite Chet recordings. I'm wondering if this version has been tabbed by anyone? I've seen many tabs for Mr. Sandman, but none of this exact version.

Here is the link: [url]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n-c66SJPuUI&feature=related/url] (don't know why the url feature does not work for me, I see others posting a clickable link, but it isn't happening, using the url button or drag and drop). You can also find it on youtube under the title "Chet Atkins - Mr. Sandman (TV 1954).

Thanks, and enjoy.

Thanks! I think that it's my favourite version now too. I'll bet at that time especially, no one had ever heard such great guitar playing in finger style of popular music. He made it look so easy. If I would have seen that performance as a 6 year old I might have gotten hooked on his playing earlier than age 17.

Len... (and anyone who might be computer timid)

Re: "clickablle links"

the trick is to leave of the [url] part

[url]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n-c66SJPuUI&feature=related/url] (

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n-c66SJP ... re=related

If you look at the top of any online window you will see a bunch of typing that starts
htttp://

If you click that ONCE the whole line changes color and is what they call "highlighted"

put your cursor/pointer on that and right click and you get a little pop-up menu that allows you to click "copy"

Then you go to your forum page, right click the main text field and the little pop-up come up again and you can select 'paste'

Len's first attempt would have worked fine but he left off the left bracket in the closing tag. The closing tag should look like this: [/url]

norm is right...you can just paste the link without the url tags and it will also work. But the url tags will allow you to make a standard link with descriptive text...like this: Chet Atkins - Mr. Sandman (TV 1954) On YouTube

Oh yeah...that's probably my favorite Chet video on the tube.

Thanks Norm, but I tried the copy and paste ( I am not computer timid ;) ). It didn't work in Safari or Firefox (mac).

And Doug, the url tags didn't work for me either, so thanks for posting the link.

Hope someone has the tab, Chet is doing some great things in this arrangement.

Many thanks.

Ok
macs I'm not savvy on.

The info might help some other guys out there though...

Here's what you can do.

paste your original line like you did

[url]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n-c66SJPuUI&feature=related/url]

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n-c66SJP ... e=related/

And very carefully edit out the [url url]

I just did that and it worked like a charm

I wonder what that black neck pickup is? I think I saw some adjustment screws that remind me of the D´Armond Dynasonic.

Yup, that's what it is, a DeArmond Dynasonic. No wonder Chet disliked them, sounds crappy

What a great tone he had there. Nothing like those old videos. Youtube will keep Chet available for a whole new generation.

I found a tab for "Mr Sandman" for the Guitar Pro program. Just google "Mr Sandman guitar pro". It seems to be pretty correct. I've been working on it for a few days.

If you don't have Guitar Pro you can download a demo version.
