Time Lapse Oil Painting of Chet Atkins

Postby David Elliott » Tue Mar 15, 2011 3:18 pm

As a person who cannot draw the proverbial 'straight line', I've always admired someone's ability to capture a 'vision' on canvas.

Here is a time lapse, of a very good artist (Tom Pinch) painting a portrait we all will recognize as being the photograph of Chet that is on the cover of 'Me and My Guitars' by the Cochran brothers.

I find it very interesting...

That was very enjoyable, from one also who couldn't draw a clump of mud. Fascinating. The background music was very appropriate.

I used to do watercolors of women and got pretty good at it but nothing like this.

Yes, I've seen some of your work Norm, you're quite good, and especially in watercolor...the most 'exacting' of all artistic paint forms. Oil painting can be 'corrected', (after the fact), but no such luck with watercolors, you've got to get it 'right' the first time!

David, since I've seen that original picture, I have something in my mind to compare it with and am in a position to be very critical and that was an awesome display of talent!
