I have been told that Shot Jackson was the craftsman.

Didn't I read someplace that Shot Jackson did the cutaway for Jerry?

Eddie, Boy am I jealous! No really, good job my friend. Can't wait to see Phil's video. Paul has done so much for all of us in so many ways! That had to be amazing to just see the guitar, let alone play it. Great job!!!! And thank you Paul for all you've done.

Here is the first clip of Phil playing Jerry's guitar. I'll do some more tomorrow.

There's was one clip of me noodling on "Good Stuff" and Paul smiled a little bit, I guess that's one tune you don't hear to many folks play.

Gene Martin Benny Martin's brother did that he worked at Sho-Bud, Jerry had another classic made by someone in St Louis that was cut like that and I think that's where the idea came from, thanks paul

I was thinking about Hank Garland the past few days Odell Martin and I use to talk to Hank backstage at the Opry back in the 50's when I was with the Louvins he would give use advice one time he told us that you could play about any song or tune in the space of 5 frets on the guitar another thing he showed us was finger excer. lay your hand flat on the table and put a book on your hand and raise each finger, Hank was one of the good guys, thanks paul

I saved this quote from Jerry himself from a now-defunct website -
"Neither Paul Yandell nor Ray Butts had anything to do with the old
Baldwin Cutaway. Benny Martin’s brother, Gene, cut it out for me so I
could get down the neck. But Paul has setup just about every guitar I’ve
played, and there’s none better. If you want to know how it plays now,
you’ll have to ask Paul: because I gave it to him. I do use a Ray Butts
pickup in my Fender."

I've had quite a few memorable experiences in 25 years at CAAS, but the few minutes I spent playing Jerry's old Baldwin at the '09 convention ranks right near the top. I'll always remember that thanks to Paul.

Re: Jerry's guitar
Just found this thread- haven't been on the CB much in the last week or so. Eddie and Phil, that's great. I know first hand how you felt when you (and Bill) played Jerry's guitar. Like Phil said, it has such a deep bass tone, and what I call a "vibe." One of the greatest guitars I've played, for sure.
And yes, Paul is one in a million, a great friend and mentor to us all. When he brought the guitar to CAAS for me to use in a Jerry Reed workshop (maybe '96 or '97, several years ago), I nearly cried too. (Actually, I think I did cry just a little bit in the workshop, I'm not ashamed to say.) When I took the guitar out of the case, the room fell silent, because everybody knew what it was. Somebody sent me a VHS tape of it, and I remember I could hardly play!
Anyway, again thanks to paul (and Jerry and Chet) and great job, Phil and Eddie!
