CAAS 2018 Videos

Postby Len R » Tue Jul 24, 2018 9:41 pm

Hi friends, I just posted 11 videos from CAAS 2018 on my YouTube channel, which is LMRMAX. This set is an unscheduled jam in the Kirk Sand room featuring Tommy Emmanuel, Richard Smith, and Jim Nichols. This is some of the best picking I've ever seen. Here is a link to the last one, Stomping at the Savoy. From there you can access the others. Hope you enjoy!

I appreciate all of your hard work and generosity with this, Len. I was there for this one. As you may have ascertained by now, my analysis is always a bit unorthodox. To me it wasn't about the great picking but the great spontaneous musical thinking and processing driving it all!

Thanks very much Rande. It was nice to see you. I agree, this set was different because they were relaxed and having a great time doing whatever. Pure improv. Natural chemistry. Just great !!

LMRMAX, from your youtube location, I especially enjoyed Back Home Again in Indiana, Birth of the Blues, and Avalon. I suppose Avalon was not part of a Session with Chet Atkins, but the other two made me curious about Richard's evening performance, "Session with . . . ."―seeing that I was not there. How would you (or anyone who was there) describe the relationship between Richard's "Session" and the original album by Chet? Just curious. LMark

Awesome, Len. Now I know why we got out of your way when ever you came in a room with your video camera...

Thanks,

Palmer

This amazing session was very reminiscent of a late night jam that took place the first year I attended in 1998.. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jW_4T3Jy0c8

Palmer, thanks for that clip. Similar energy and vibe, but it seems like the clip is speeded up by 100%!! ;)

As Tommy would say (and did several time this convention), that was back when I had hair and teeth.....:)

Well, I did record the Session performance, and will post some of it. So you can compare it! But it was not a note for note re-creation, many liberties were taken, I think they were just trying to capture the spirit of each tune.
