Live Picking - Texas Fingerpickers - Sweet Southern Sounds?

Postby PaulBennett » Wed Jan 17, 2018 2:41 am

Perhaps ten years back there was a live internet 'picking room' for Chet's people. On an internet web site provided by Sweet Southern Sounds. After a simple login, It was advanced internet streaming, a cozy few tens of friends and the best way to spend a weekend at home using the pc. Press a button to play into the listeners or type comments.

Hopefully live picking still is active in some digital incarnation. Details please.

Paul, if you scroll down to the bottom of the 1st CHETBOARD screen you see, there is a LIVE PICKING ROOM ootion that will take you to Sweet Southern Sounds login. I haven't used it, so I don't know if it is still functional. I hope 7t is.

Len Collins and Ken Goddard seemed to run that room. Len was once the president of the Texas Fingerstyle Guitar Association and passed away in 2014. Ken came down from Oklahoma to the meetings for a while. He also attended the CAAS convention for a while with his friend Peggy, who had health issues and I haven't seen him for a few years. I know that Glen Burgin took Len's place for awhile and now it's Ron Haft. I don't know who took over the Pickin' Room? I don't live in Texas any more but maybe Ron knows?

Thanks, Larry. Is there any significant attendance?

Rande, I was in the room a few days ago. There were a couple of others in there. Glenn Burgin was pIaying. I don't think the attendance is what it used to be a few years ago.

I've done the live picking room myself but it was a long time ago. Enjoyed it very much. I even met Ken Goddard at one of the Chet Conventions and could tell he was a great person. I'm sorry to hear of his passing. He is no doubt missed by all who were fortunate enough to have known him.

As Mark Twain once said "Reports of my (Ken Goddard's) death are greatly exaggerated" Ken is still alive and kicking I am happy to report.

Roger, that is a relief! I felt pretty close to him. I had never heard that he passed away until someone was expressing their condolences. Thanks!
