"Engine Engine # 9"

I was listening to Chet play Roger Miller's "Engine Engine # Nine" on Ytube, and I couldn't help tapping my foot. In fact, it's darn near impossible to not tap your foot when Chet got that rhythm going.

To me, one of the most outstanding facets of Chet's playing, and I'd even say FOUNDATIONAL to his playing was his IMPECCABLE sense of rhythm, along with his anticipating the melody. When Chet got that thumb going, the whole world listened. Wasn't it Paul Yandell who said he had the steadiest thumb in Nashville?

The rhythm patterns he produced were beyond reproach. Listen again to "Flop Eared Mule And Other Favorites", and just love every minute of it.
