Gibson CG Pickguard

Postby BobFrye » Thu Dec 01, 2016 2:02 pm

My friend Rick Allred, just bought a Gibson Country Gentleman. The pickguard was damaged in shipment. If anyone has a pickguard they would part with, or knows where to get one, please send me a PM.

Thanks Bob F.

I have bought various Gretsch parts from Darren Riley. He also stores Fender and many other brands parts.

Thanks Vidar,

I called Darren after I saw your post. And unfortunately, he did not have a pickguard. Any other suggestions would be appreciated.

Bob, the Gibson Gent and the Gibson L-5 are both 17 inch guitars and have deluxe binding. I'll bet an L-5 pickguard would work and they still make those guitars so you should be able to find one at a decent price and not pay any premium for a "vintage" pickguard. There are several on sale on eBay right now. If that doesn't work, check with a vintage dealer and see if they have a spare one for sale. There's links to those at the Vintage Guitar Magazine web site. I hope this helps.

As a last resort, Bob, there's this OFGC club member up here in Ohio that is quite the craftsman - he made me a pick guard for this cheap Yamaha I bought a long time ago exactly like the one that came with it. (It was one of those pgs that Paul Yandell advised us that emitted some sort of acid gas that turned the strings and pickup covers green.)

I'm sure he could do the same for Rick's CG...

Paul Setzer known from GretschPages.com makes excellent pickguards. Here are examples of his work:
