Gretsch G9220 to emulate Del Vecchio

Postby Spadaro Paolo » Tue Nov 10, 2015 5:47 am

Hello to all!!!!

I need your advice or your opinions about the dobro guitar gretsch G9220.

It 'a good dobro guitar to emulate the sound of Del Vecchio Of Mr.Atkins (very hard to find now)?

Very economical 500 € / 600 € and is easily found on the market.

I accept advice also regarding other types of resonator guitars, just that the sound is as close to that of Del Vecchio, and they are not too expensive and hard to find.

Obviously I know The Dynamic Del Vecchio remains the only resource to really have that sound !!!!!!

Ciao, Paolo.

Spadaro,
Gretsch had a G9220 at CAAS this year and I picked it up and tried it, out of curiosity more than anything, as I had never really played a resonator before. I didn't want to put it down. I was surprised at how well it played and sounded and how well it was made for the price of the guitar. I had no prior thoughts of buying any type of guitar this year but I ended up buying it. I don't think you will find a better resonator guitar for the money. Now, as you said, it is not a Del Vecchio, but I believe it is a really good guitar for the money. From what I hear your chances of getting a good Del Vecchio is pretty slim, but I think the Gretsch quality control is very good.

Just my thoughts, hope it is helpful.

Hi, I haven't tried the Gretsch guitar in question. I have however tried many guitars with that style of resonator and bridge, the guitars spanned every price range imaginable from low end to high end. None of them sounded like a Del Vecchio guitar not even close. I would not be satisfied with this style guitar to attempt Del Vecchio tunes. Just my opinion.
