In a musical slump.

Hey guys I dont really know if this is the place to post this one, but I am going to try it. I've kinda been in a musical slump for a few months, been busy working and EMT stuff, and I would like to get back on top musically with my guitar. I still play pretty much everyday, but I am trying to find my musical nitch. I listen to chet and tommy, folk, bluegrass, singer/songwriter stuff, acoustic music alot, and I dont really know what to pursue. I am not an extraordinary singer, I enjoy singing but I dont really have a "signiture" voice. I guess my guitar skill is my workhorse, but I feel like branching out and getting into other genres and kinda making my own nitch in the wide world of music, any suggestions? I know people enjoy my instrumental guitar playing I have some acoustic fans and electric fans, some are just plain old fans of me, (which I am extremely greatful for). I want to step out on stage with something fresh that people will enjoy. Any ideas?
Thanks guys.

my first thought would be to see if I could make myself fit in whatever genre I spend my listening time on

In my case, since I prefer finger style I might look into going after the Doc Watson/Tony Rice linear flatpicking style

...for an example...

surely there are other guitarists you want to play like

or, take a song you already play well and play it in a totally different style

not likely to be an overnight thing but it's the hunt... the challenge... and, as you know, you get out of it what you put into it...
...that's how it looks to me...The opinion expressed above is my own and does not necessarily reflect the views of this station. Your mileage may vary...

That should do it.

Thanks Norm, I actually went to a jam last night, it was one of the best we have had in a long time. It was a good boost.

What I've done is to listen to things that have nothing to do with the guitar and then adapt and arrange them for guitar.

Yeah I've definitely been a musical slump, I haven't even touched a guitar since CAAS in July. I'm burnt out from picking.
