Yakety Axe video

Postby Chuck » Sat Aug 16, 2014 9:18 am

Have always wanted to play Yakety Axe, but could never even come close to the speed and precision Chet (and other posters on this board) could play. Chet will always own this song, everyone knows that, I knew it was impossible to even come close.

So I slowed it down and tried to make it my own.
-With all respect, humility and deference I "talk-sang" the Merle Travis lyrics that I loved so much when Chet included them.
-I couldn't bear to have just my face in there during the lyrics so I thought about what would be a good alternative- which is of course shots of Chet playing, from the you tubes we have all seen.
Again used with respect and NOT to imply I could ever share the stage with Chet (ha!)
-Finally I added a lead break borrowing from Jitterbug Waltz

Thanks, thought I'd try something different, since Chet's perfect version already exists. Chuck/Cincinnati

Carl, Norm, Terry, Mark, Gary and Art. Thank you. It just means so much when people on this board, (given the excellent players here) provide positive comments. Makes me want to work harder (and like most of us I'm already working hard). MUCH appreciated. Thank you all. Chuck/Cincinnati

Chuck, I know what it's like to learn everything merely from listening and then putting out own "twist" on things. It takes a lot of inborn talent combined with lots of practice. You did a great job!
