Caravan A Session with Chet Atkins
I wonder what guitar and amp Chet used on "Caravan" from "A Session with Chet Atkins"? To me it's about one of the "Chet-iest" tunes out there. It's one of those tunes that you know right away that it is Chet playing. He sure gets a good sound out'a whatever combo he used. Matter of fact, all the cuts on that album have a unique sound!! Jus wunderin'????? Steve

Well, it came out in 1954 so it was probably a 6120 with DeArmond (Dynasonic) pickups. The solid top didn't get made until 1956.
Chet and Ray Butts met in 1954 so that could well be one of Ray's EchoSonic amps in the mix there because, according to my reference discography, Sandman came out in 1954 too which means Chet was using it to record in '54

...that's how it looks to me...The opinion expressed above is my own and does not necessarily reflect the views of this station. Your mileage may vary...

Norm is probably right. Sure sounds like a Gretsch to me and a good possibility that the Echosonic amp was used also.
