CAAS is in a few days, so I thought I'd post my cover of Chet's Grand Ole Opry performance of Avalon, as I was inspired to learn it by watching the great pickers at CAAS for the past four years. Some of my CAAS friends have seen this already, but some haven't and I thought the board might enjoy it, such as it is, because it is not the version commonly heard. Its kinda slow and took 10 takes to get it slightly above below average , but hoping you may enjoy it.
Tip: play it back in high def (click the gear symbol under the youtube video window and select 720 or 1080, as the audio quality is better).
See you at CAAS 2014!

Re: Avalon 1956 cover
Len, I like it that you play as though you hadn't "left" Avalon at the speed of light. [Insert message for Palmer: "I don't know what's come over me."] I also envy you for having such a superb rhythm player handy. LMark

Re: Avalon 1956 cover
Thanks. The rhythm guitarist is Don Cerce, a superb chet picker. He is an outstanding player and did me a great favor by playing rhythm for me on this track, to the extent it holds together that is due to Don's comping.
Thanks for the reply!

Thanks Roger and Terry. I'm bringing my video camera to CAAS so hopefully I'll have even better recordings to share...

Re: Avalon 1956 cover
Super job, Len. Make sure you come in the Picker's Club Room (Belmont Room) and share your talents with us. We LOVE those old Chet toons....
Yes, you are right, Mark..."yer playin' the damned thing all wrong." (LOL - Ala, Chester/Lester ) I'm used to playing it a tad faster - why should I play at a speed where I make a few misteaks when I could be playing a BUNCH of "different" notes. LOL
Love your playing, Len. Please drop in SEVERAL TIMES to the Picker's Club Room. We'll have a ball.
(Wish you could be there, too, Mark. We ALL wish you could be there.)

Re: Avalon 1956 cover
Thanks Palmer (and Gary) for the kind words, and thank you for the pickin' invite. I look forward to it. I'll be flying in so won't have my guitar with me, do you think there might be an extra country gent around?
Look forward to seeing you, will arrive Thursday afternoon around 2 pm.
