Chet's Gibson L-10 with Pickup Photo
This is a picture I've never seen before. Notice the Pickup on the L-10.

Chet was so far ahead of the rest of the guitar world.

Mike
In his approach to playing guitar and the sound he was looking for, and maybe the way he was holding that cord.
Les Paul was too, but in different ways IMHO.

Re: Chet's Gibson L-10 with Pickup Photo
The truth is that Chet almost hung it up. He was in his thirties and just wasn't making enough money to support a family playing on the radio. Listeners just weren't that interested in someone who "just played guitar" and it caused him to get fired a lot.
Had it not been for the Carters hiring him he might have been one of those wistful "what ever happened to..." guys starved into taking a day job and playing very local, obscure, gigs
The Carters gave him a living and stood by him against the Nashville clique that didn't want him to come to "their" town.
Then came the D'Angelico, next came Steve Sholes and the rest is history.

I made a post under a different heading and it looks ike the police pulled it. I guess you're the man. Carry on in the best way that you deem possible.

Joe...
I saw your response and I apologize for being so cynical. I had trouble understanding what your post was about. I realize now I was kinda mean and it's not the way I usually am
No point in rehashing it. I imagine you are justifiably proud of having known Chet and Les so closely and, sorry about th shot about your car but when I read it I thought it was a car you were talking about.
and so forth...
again... I apologize for being so cynical in response to your post.
Let's all play guitar now and get past this meanness
