Here is a bit more detailed information about the workshop..

What sets a good fingerpicker apart form a great one? One of the biggest factors is right hand technique. We will progressively cover over 70 picking patterns, double-picking, cross-picking, banjo rolls, cascading harp harmonics, exercises to develop thumb independence, individual finger independence, dynamics, tone, volume and more. Each weeks lessons are given to you with complete video breakdowns, tablature and charts.

This looks really great Brooks and I am sure it delivers lots of instructional "bang for the buck". The right hand patterns are an area I have needed help learning so I am looking forward to your lessons.

I enrolled in this and I am in week 2. The 8 week workshops are a really a great concept, It is a video workshop that includes lessons and "homework" that you videotape and send back to your instructor, then you get a personalized video back with suggestions. I can already tell that the course will be challenging as I get into weeks 3 and beyond. It is not just a "canned" thing, the instruction is personalized to you. BTW, check out these nice fish from my fishing trip tonight, we caught 8 of them! Image

You must have been salt water fishing. That's a Redfish (dot on the tail). I used to catch them wade fishing when I lived on the Gulf Coast near Corpus Christi. Good fightin' fish, and good to eat, too!!

Hope you're doing well, Tom. Our Texas Rangers sure have a lot of work to do.

I really like the concept of Brooks' course but my hangup would be to record a video of myself for feedback. If I could do that, then I would have had videos of myself on this board long ago!

The idea of focusing on technique rather than how to play a particular song is very appealing to me though!

I just use a small flip camera sitting on the desk pointing at my right hand, that is what he needs to see. If I make a mistake its no big deal I just start again. It gives him a chance to see how I am progressing with the exercises and make his suggestions. One thing that he suggested that is already helping is the position of my right hand, I was playing with my thumb too close to my fingers and they can bump into each other when you do that.

I wonder how many students Brooks has now? It seems that with even hundreds he'd have trouble keeping up with all of the feedback.

Rande, I see this video recorder on eBay and it sounds like it's a right good video recorder and excellent audio recorder. I'd sure like to see some video of your playing...I think I would really enjoy it and I'm sure I'm not the only one. Here is a link to the unit on eBay and a PC Magazine review of it. It's pretty reasonably priced.

Tom, I hope you enjoy that course. It sounds like a good one when you can get feedback like that. He's sure a great player.

Both of you take care,
Ray

Thanks, Ray. I'll check this out. What I'd like to do is to record from my computer like I've seen Bruce Keener do. It seems that it would be unnecessary to have to purchase a special or separate video-camera. Then of course I guess there would be the sound issue. I'll check out the link you sent. Thanks again!
