Arthur "Guitar Boogie" Smith passes

Postby smokymtguitar09 » Fri Apr 04, 2014 1:12 pm

One of my early guitar heroes, Arthur "Guitar Boogie"Smith, died Thursday April 3, 2014 in Charlotte, NC. As a young aspiring guitar player in 1964 I had the pleasure of being on one of his television shows in Charlotte. I recently recorded my version of his "Guitar Boogie" playing my Gibson ES-355 guitar similar to the one Arthur played only his was red and mine is brown. Arthur Smith played guitar, mandolin, fiddle, and tenor banjo, was a song writer, broadcaster, and humanitarian, who inspired many musicians. He had many famous guests on his syndicated TV show from Ferrante and Tischer, to Andy Griffith, and Chet Atkins who did a duet with Arthur on the show.

RIP Arthur Smith

We're losing all of our heroes. I still like his version of Guitar Boogie the best. I remember him coming to the CAAS in 1999 to pay tribute to Chet.
