Shipping guitar from east coast to west coast

Postby PhilHunt » Wed Apr 03, 2013 9:03 am

Does anyone know how much it would be (roughly) to ship a guitar from east coast to west coast?
Which method is cheaper USPS, UPS, or Fedex?
I'm shipping a CE.

Phil,
It's strictly a matter of weight and time. How much it weighs, and how long you want it to take to get there!

If you are looking for cheap...go parcel with the USPS. It will take 7 days most likely, but should be around 40 bucks, if you use a guitar box that is relative to the size of the guitar. I have had great "luck" shipping with the USPS...i guess everyone has horror stories, but they have done me right.

You would be wise to google 'how to pack a guitar for shipment' and view more than one presentation.
Insure it.
...that's how it looks to me...The opinion expressed above is my own and does not necessarily reflect the views of this station. Your mileage may vary...

That should do it.

I found this link on packing guitars at Gruhn Guitars web site. I've shipped right many guitars and used this method and have never had a problem.

I believe, generally speaking, you'll find the USPS will be less than most other shipping methods.

Whichever method you use, pack it well, (with particular emphasis on the neck area), and mark the parcel (on both sides and in large block letters), "VERY FRAGILE- HANDLE LIKE EGGS! :)
