Re: Five Foot Two, Chet Atkins
David is quite correct. Chet never stopped developing.

No, I honestly don't recall, John. I remember meeting Chet and Jim (and I believe Gary?) Atkins at a music store in Denver, because I remember Chet adjusted the action on my guitar! It seems like they invited me to a recording session or something at the radio station, so that could be where it was recorded!
Sorry, just too many years ago!

Thanks, David. What a great story. I've noticed that all of the stories about Chet add up to the same guy. He was always himself. John

Re: Five Foot Two, Chet Atkins
These recordings were taken from the cd "Early Chet Atkins".
Some with the Carter family, some with Jimmy Dean and Faron Young.
Early to mid 50s.
Hank Garland backed up Faron Young
The Jim was Jimmy Dean.
Thanks

This recording was from Country Music Time or Navy Country Hoedown.

Sorry Spencer, I'm not sure to whom your sarcasm was directed, but I'm sure we all appreciate the information regarding the recording under discussion. Speaking only for myself, I do not always read the ChetBoard daily, so that'll have to do for my excuse.

Thanks David.
I haven't logged in in a couple of years I guess. I don't check the website as often any more.
I only contribute if there is information that I have that can help the thread.
In the past it seems that my posts always kill the thread. That is not my intention.
Usually there are no more posts after mine.
I've enjoyed Chet's music for about 50 years and I just try to contribute when I can.
I guess I take it too personally.

Re: Five Foot Two, Chet Atkins
From the pamphlet accompanying the CD "Early Chet Atkins with The Carter Sisters and Mother Maybelle" (Country Routes RFD CD 32, 2004): Five Foot Two is track 25, recorded during Country Music Time and Navy Country Hoedown early-to-mid 1950´s. "These recordings cover the period before his Gretsch Guitar Days, when he played his various instruments such as Gibson L7, L10, Gibson 175 but Chet says in his book, ME AND MY GUITARS, that he played his D´Angelico Excel (No. 1839 with a P90 pickup at the bridge and a Bigsby up front) on all his Carter Family appearances. He was using a Fender Pro Amp also at this time and what a sound this combination makes!". The liner notes don´t spesifically mention the names of the other musicians on Five Foot Two. There may be a bass player but certainly a drummer.

Vidar,
Thanks. There is a lot of history in these recordings.
