The Old Rugged Cross

Postby Richard Hudson » Sun Mar 25, 2012 2:07 pm

This is done with my Gretsch G6120DE, Duane Eddy model guitar through the 25L15 and a condensor mic. My apologies to Duane, but it just seems to me that many of these old Gospel hymns are begging for Duane's interpretation and his style. My preference would have been for a Buddy Emmons type pedal steel on the second chorus, but Buddy wasn't available. :)

I appreciate you listening.

Richard

Thank you very much. I was a very young teenager when Rebel Rouser came out. It was definitely different and I followed Duane's illustrious career, and still do. He is a very nice Gentleman and a very under rated guitar player, even though he is the most popular instrumentalist of all time, according to record sales. I was listening to an old Duane Eddy album the other day and I heard him play Precious Memories. I immediately thought of The Old Rugged Cross and this recording is the result of that. Duane and his wife, Deed, are both huge Chet Atkins fans, and we spend a lot of our time together talking about Chet.

I appreciate you listening.

Thanks,
Richard
