Chet had several Martin guitars in his collection, so I thought I would post this cool Youtube video here. Actual film footage from 1939. Some say this time period was the peak of acoustic guitar

Chuck,
That's a neat piece of history and Norman Blake's song about his D-18 is very fitting music for the footage! Thanks!

Any d-model finished the day that clip was filmed would be worth a small fortune today

It kind of gets you to thinking about where all those great vintage guitars went... Surely they didn't all end up in the garbage!!!

That video was very interesting. I enjoy watching historical scenes like that.
A lot of the guitars from that era are still around and the dealers are asking huge sums for them. Here is a link to a couple of them at Elderly Instruments. The Gibson J-200 is in amazing shape. Even the heavily repaired ones bring some kind of premium because they are from that time. Ray
Thanks a lot for that video and music. My D28 is forty years younger than that, made in 1979. It´s a very fine instrument, but I´ve heard pre-war guitars that sound better than mine. A D18 made in 1939 cost US$ 65, and a D28 cost US$ 100. Martin´s most expensive instrument that year was the D45 at US$ 200. Today they are priceless.
