Red Wing Cover

Here's my attempt at Red Wing. I learned it from the album "Play Guitar with Chet Atkins"

Thanks,

You have a nice technique, Brent. The tone on the CGP is very good.

Since I live in Minnesota these days, is the origin of Red Wing connected with the locale by that name in Minnesota by chance? I suppose that I could search for that info, but why not ask musician friends who may know first? If there is a connection, then it would be a nice addition to the state songs that I love so much to play: Alabama Jubilee, Back Home Again in Indiana, etc. LMark

But see this! You got me curious. There is indeed a connection to what you have posted! Minnesota is BIG American Indian territory. See from about 1:00 here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E5udz0zem8c

Sounds good to me, Marcus... I'd love to think that it was "Red Wing's" Red Wing's daughter - right there south of Minneapolis... Which ever it really is - it's one SAD song!!!! There's one Chet tune I could have done without knowing the words to... :)

I suppose "Red Wing" was a common enough name among those folk. I'm still going to "learn up" that tune, I think. I'm glad Brent posted it. Guy also did it recently for the Fred Gretsch booth at CAAS. LMark

Marcus,
I too learned the song from the same source? I believe the song is played in major not minor chords. Also there are some aug. chords in tasty places! Chet threw in the minor part to make it a little more interesting as he always did! In all a very nice job. Vic Bateman
