Thank you very much for the comments, Brent, Mr. Astro and Ray. Made my weekend.
Rande, thanks for your kind words too. I had every intention of making it to CAAS this year, and then one of our rescue dogs became too ill for me to leave (as my wife was out of the country at that very time) in hands of our pet sitter .
My 2 cents is that your way is best. Listen, get it in your head, slow it down, study it and learn it by ear. When I do that I never seem to forget it. If I pick it up off tabs or sheet music it doesn't stick.
Despite such a busy life you are making time for guitar, I admire you for that.
Thanks again, Chuck.
Re: Mountains of Illinois cover
Chuck, my "dedication" is due to a strong habit developed over decades, beginning in my teens. I had an insatiable desire to play what I was hearing and nobody around me was able to show me how. So began the long period of trial and error, which has never stopped. I do know my limitations now but continue to work hard in the areas that I feel are possible to improve in. Sorry about your rescue dog situation. I hope you can make it in 2016. I also hope that I can!
