The Chetboard

A great thing about this board is getting to see the videos that are posted. I appreciate all you guys who share your videos. In my case, I’m a hobby guitarist and low cost home recording makes sense for me. A recent experiment might be of some interest. Generally, if I make a video I have one camera and get a single view for a song. I’m most definitely an amateur at it. But experimenting, I chose a melody from the hymnal that I really like, “Living for Jesus,” and used my one camera to record three takes with different views from which I selected segments that I then pieced together in Windows Movie Maker. Playing along with Band-in-a Box kept the timing of the three takes compatible. There are better ways to do it, I know, but funds required for better ways make lesser ways attractive, for me. Going through a small mixer into a DVD recorder works for me and Movie Maker on a laptop seems to process the video fairly well. The link here is the result of my experiment.

Well, by-golly Art, that was great!!! Another example of some great pickin', sound engineering, and now even snazzy video!! You just get craftier (iz zat even a word?) as time goes on. While you fellow Chetboarders have the ol' YouTube fired up be sure and check out Art playing "In The Sweet By and By" and "Brighten The Corner Where You Are", a couple'a good'uns too! That guitar sure sounds good! I have a vintage Acme Chip Arkin model that I will trade ya for it and throw in 2 yellar thumbpicks! Don't wait to long, offer is for a limited time only. My wife is watching the back door with a shotgun keepin' folks out tryin't to get to it!!! No really, Art, that is some mighty fine playing! So smooth and mellow and seemingly effortless. Hi Norm, thanks for that comment. I think I recall seeing a remark by you a while back that you have one of the vintage Epiphones similar to my guitar. I think you said yours is the Casino which I think is almost the same as the Riviera. I bought mine new back in ’64 and it’s been a real workhorse.

Hi Steve, your comments are really generous and I appreciate very much what you said. I don’t think I’ve ever heard of that guitar brand you have but it must be a really fine instrument, being guarded with a shotgun. I am familiar with yellow thumb picks but two yellow thumb picks seems like the deal would be too unfair to you so I guess I’ll pass, but thanks for that offer. I’m glad you like the sound of the old Epi. I like it too. The mini-humbuckers they put on the old Rivieras seem to have a very sweet sound.

What kind of thumb pick were you using. Looks very interesting ??
