Many new Chet videos

Postby Hendrik » Fri Mar 02, 2012 7:41 am

The user 'NashvilleNetwork' on YouTube is posting some great, rare high quality videos of Chet Atkins and others.

I have made a list in chronological order of all the Chet videos that have been uploaded. Also one of Jerry and one of them together. Some of these videos you may already know, but these uploads are mostly better in quality then the ones that are already circulating on YouTube.

Many thanks to the uploader, I hope you guys enjoy them!

Tremendous video quality...the epitome of greatness...in such a smooth and unassuming manner. Thanks for taking the time to individually sort these out and post them.

These videos come from the Rare Performances 1955-1975 and 1976 - 1995 - both from Stephan Grossman's Guitar Workshop. I have these videos in my collection. Looks like someone has uploaded copyrighted material.

Yes, I have both DVD's. Great quality!
But does Stephan Grossman own the copyright of this performances? Maybe he just got the license to release the material.

The difference is, if you release the work of other people, you must get the permission to do it. But that doesn't mean that you own the copyright then.
If, for example, a sampler is made by a company, that doesn't mean they own the copyright of every song. The have to pay royalties to the copyright owner.

I think you're allowed to play a portion of a song in a "sampler" without paying a royalty but I have no idea what the restriction is. It might be a thrity second limit. This is why you're able to play a 'taste' of a song bbut not the complete song before you download it or order the CD. Many of the ones I've listened to don't have enough of the main melody to be beneficial as anything But a sampler.

I'm sure it's spelled out in fine legalese somewhere.

That should do it.

Who ever owns the coyright of this stuff (I think TNN owns them for the Pop goes the country), it's great for all the people that haven't seen this stuff!

What do you think, is the uploader really the Nashville network or is it a privat person??

If there is a commercially available DVD of Chet footage I buy it.

As far as everything else on youtube. If the companies that own footage of Chet or really
anything else can't see fit to make it available as far as I am concerned don't cry when
the market fills the void.

It is far easier to make recorded material available now than any other time.
You can just make it pay for download. No discs to press etc.

TNN wouldn't make them deliberately for free without a lot of fanfare and self congratulation.

There ain't no money in "free"
