It´s fascinating to note that these live recordings, made seventy years ago, still amazes us.

Hmmm, the distance in time between 2012 and ca 1950..., or rather, sixty years ago! Still amazing.

Well, 70 years ago was 1942 and Chet was 18 then. If he was recording professionally in his 20's he was probably already fairly good at 18. I wonder if he tried to record just for himself in his teens?

This recording was taken from a Navy recruiting program in the 50's. The Jim that was referred to was Jimmy Dean
and the program was "Country Hoedown". Chet was in his 30's and I believe around 1956 which means the guitar
was a Gretsch. The link below will show you where I got this information, but I do remember the shows.

David, that was fantastic. I don't think I've ever heard him play that piece before. That was quite a sophisticated arrangement and I'm wondering if it was recorded later than his KOA days I'm thinking that I must sort out my audio recordings of Chet's solos in Denver; some of those are really in the development stage and date from his time at KOA with Shorty Thomson (c1947).
