Bone Saddle for Prismatone?

Postby Bluebird_12 » Sun Apr 24, 2011 1:00 pm

Has anyone ever tried a bone saddle in a Prismatone or Prismatone II?

I have ordered a couple of saddle blanks but they are 2.5mm wide whereas the Psmtone only takes a 2mm wide one.

I don't think that you need a saddle for a Prismatone. I think the Prismatone is the saddle.

The Prismatone has a Nylon saddle. Sam makes two different saddles...one that is flat and one that has a radius. I always wondered if a bone saddle could be used and the Prismatone be put on a steel string guitar.

I always wondered if that's what Chet did on Harper Valley PTA...it sounds like a Prismatone with steel strings.

I think Craig put a bone saddle in one of his Prismatone, but went back to nylon as it sounded better.
Thanks,

"the Prismatone be put on a steel string guitar."
Phil..
Wasnt it you or or someone else, a year or so ago, catch glen playing an steel string ovation with a Prismatone on it? It was possibly just a couple of frames in the video, but it appeared to be one on his steel string.

Yes, there's a youtube vid of Glen, Jerry and Larry where Glen is using a Prismatone equipped steel-string Ovation. He was miking it though...it wasn't plugged in.

I might be wrong about the actual device in it, but if I recall, Willie Nelson uses a Prismatone on Trigger. Said Prismatone was supposedly taken out of a cheap steel string guitar (likely a Baldwin) and he put it into his Martin classic and has used it ever since.

Maybe I mis-remember the story, but that's what I recall reading a long time ago.

I'm pretty sure that you are correct, Steve. That's the same thing that I hear.

I just looked it up on the official Willie Nelson site - it looks like it actually may have come from a nylon string Baldwin. Might shoulda looked it up before I started typing. . . oh well.

I've cut this twice and it's still too short....

Oops! I missed that you said steel string. I was pretty sure that it was from a nylon, but my brain wasn't cooperating at the time. I'd guess that Willie has the battery box, too.
