The Chetboard

There is a Gibson Studio CEC on the bay right now that has been used and abused some so it would seem. The serial number (if correct) indicates that it is a 1983 but I don't think they were even made that far back. I would guess it's a 1993 instead of 1983. There is a whopper of a crack on the lower part and the headstock has been burned/melted by a hot amp tube. If you don't mind a beat-up guitar this might be your chance at a Studio fairly cheap.

The seller has corrected the listing - it's a 1993.

Thats seems like a steal for that price. That crack isnt anything to worry about,its not an acoustic guitar with bent sides,and you would never see it anyway. And seems to me that they are getting harder and harder to find. If the crack was on the top it would be a totally diffferent story. If i was looking for one i would snatch it up right away.

I sold my Studio CE for $2995.00. A guy bought it from Australia and paid an additional $550+ to have out shipped there. Mine was in near mint condition though. They are tough to find now, especially the CEC model.

Bidding is over and it went for $2,225, which is what I would expect. Not many of these guitars are available, and a player could live with the crack on the bottom rim as long as it doesn't affect the sound or playing of the guitar.

The price this one went for surprised me somewhat. I didn't really think it would bring what it did in that condition. I sold one a year or two ago that was in very good to excellent condition for about the same price. My guess is the wide neck helped the price, the CEC versions are more rare I belive.

My friend bought the studio on ebay the other day and its not used and abused and not beat up. In fact its in very good shape,and plays perfect and sounds incredible like the chet gibson studio is suppose to. The crack is nothing and isnt even close to as bad as it looked in the pictures and on the bottom of the guitar anyway and with a little TLC its about as good as it gets for a 1993 guitar thats been played. So he got a good one! And its the CEC model. Not easy to find either!
