If anyone has a spare Sam Kennedy Prismatone that you'd like to sell, please send me a PM. I want one for my Harmony H174 project.

Regards

Chris

Good Luck......Sam has fallen off the map.....not sure of he's even making them anymore. Real Shame. The best thing that could have ever happen was for Gretsch to take over production, Sam could still own the rights and patent and just have Gretsch take over production. I still say it's the best piezo pickup out there. If Gretsch took over.....it would be a major goldmine. How could either parties not see this is beyond me.....I even mentioned it to Joe Carducci at CAAS.

I did get in touch with Sam, but he isn't making pickups right now. I am lucky enough to have a Prismatone 2 on my Sand though.

I'm sure they will turn up again someday. Until then I'm considering another pickup system on the H174. I'm not sure which one I'll pick yet.

The hot pickup for nylon string right now is the Barbera. I had Rich Barbera make one for my Takamine, and it really sounds awesome. It's very natural sounding, if that's what you are looking for. Kirk may have told you that he's using the Barbera pickup on some of his guitars now. That's what John Knowles has, and I think Richard Smith's latest guitar has a Barbera.

Hope that helps!

I can second Bill's suggestion about the Barbera. I had one installed in my Buscarino Cabaret and recently had one put in my Taylor 912C steel string. It doesn't require a pre-amp and doesn't exhibit the 'quack' of most piezo under saddle pickups

Does the Barbera work good in the Chet Atkins Studio Classic? Is it hard to install? Thanks, Al

There was someone on the Chetboard that put one in one of the later Gibson Studio Classic guitars (the one with the soundhole in the back of the guitar). I can't remember who that was. Kirk Sand has been putting them in a lot of his guitars, and I'm pretty sure he has installed them in a few Gibsons as well. I think he has his own bridge insert to install the Barbera as a replacement for the Gibson. You might contact him or Rich Barbera to find that information, but it's been done.

I put a Barbera in my CE after the original went south. Rich made an insert to match the original pu space. Easy to install.
