Considering 6120CGP

I have been lusting after the stereo model guitar. I have the 6122-1959, a 6120, and a Gibson CG (that Chet personally signed for me at CAAS), but think I would like to own the 6120CGP. I am sure I will get encouragement, advice and opinions from this forum.....so let me know your thoughts. As I recall Paul told me that it was the best guitar he has owned...I think he did some mods to his as well. Thanks in advance for any comments. What about amplification for it as well.

Larry-

The CGP is a great guitar. I recorded some clips with one of the prototypes for my website a couple of years ago:

Paul likes the sound he gets through his Fender Deluxe Reverb. The prototype sounded great through my Peavey Nashville 400 (15" speaker, similar to the Session 400 that Jerry used). The clips were recorded direct, through a Demeter Stereo Tube Direct and a Lexicon reverb.

Larry,
My main guitar is the CGP. I've had many Chet Atkins guitars, Gretsch, Gibson & Epiphone. The CGP is my favorite guitar that I've ever owned. Next would be the G6122-1959 Gretsch Country Gentleman and then the Gibson Country Gentleman. The stereo pickup is fun to play with on the CGP, but I use it mono most of the time. What I like best about the guitar is the neck. To me the neck is perfect on the CGP. I use a handmade Standel clone amp, which sounds great with the guitar. I agree with Paul, for a modern factory made amp, the Fender '65 Deluxe Reverb amp is the best sounding amp for our style of playing in my opinion.

How and in what way does the 6120CGP sound different from the 6120 59? I have a 6120 59, it sounds pretty good but I been thinking a lot about that CGP especially with the wider fingerboard.

Has anybody ever used the Demeter tube bass preamp with their CE? Thanks, Al I never tried the 6120 CGP, looks pretty cool! I prefer the 6120TFM Chet Atkins model. It is thin like the Tennessean I started with back in 1966. Al

Chuck, I am plying a 6120TFM Players Edition Chet Atkins with a 64 Fender Deluxe Reverb Handwired. I like it a lot. Of course I like them all really, I don't know why I keep buying them, I have the Gibson and Gretsch CG's and Studio Classic, a Super Axe. and a 59 6120, and my 1966 Tennessean and MM112RD 50, a Del Vecchio. At 71 I am going to have to stop Can't for forget my 3 Echoplexes. I must be crazy!
