You can be like me and Look on E Bay for a Epiphone Chet Atkins classical guitar. I paid about $250.00 with shipping and a case It's a lot cheaper than it's big brother the Gibson Chet mode. l have one that has a 1.75 neck. It is a little bit slimmer compared to the standard 2 inch neck. Sounds decent when you turn all the high end treble down on the guitar . Joe B

I have the Ibanez Nylon AEG10NE, lists for $299.99 at Musician's Friend (see link below).
I love it - great sound - slightly narrower neck which makes it much easier to play than the full width classical. Comes in black or tangerine.

I have a Cordoba La Playa classical guitar. It has a narrower neck, cutaway and a half-decent pickup. It is short scale though. It's around $300 or less with taxes.

Several nice Ovation 1624 Country Artists have gone for around that on Ebay lately. Although around 30 years old, they sound nice unplugged, even nicer plugged in and are easy to play. They have a top notch active preamp w/ piezo undersaddle pickup. Pretty sure Jerry had one of these back in the days of the GCGH

Ibanez classical guitars are very good for the money. I do; however, recommend spending up for a solid spruce or cedar top over the laminated plywood top models, as their tops are prone to de-laminate over time . . .

Hi John.. I don't see the nut width mentioned on the MF site. If it is less that 1 7/8 inch, and it does look pretty slim... it would be difficult to play for most nylon players. I tried out one of the slim neck versions of the Godin Multiac and couldn't even begin to play it. The music store was practically willing to give it away, because most potential buyers felt the same way about it.
Anyway, what does the nut measure on that Ibanez. Thanks.

According to this web site review the nut width is 1.89" or 48mm. I have chubby fingers and haven't had a problem with the width or string spacing for left or right hand. I've had mine for 3 or 4 yrs now and had no problem with the laminate separating as of yet. I do keep a humidifier in it when its in the case.

Thanks John... That is pretty much the same nut size as the Godin Multiac i.e. 1 7/8 inch, so it would be a comfortable guitar for crossing over from steel. Take care.

Top is not going to delaminate if kept in temp and humidity where you're comfortable.Solid tops are much more fragile than laminated tops. They just usually don't sound as good acoustically(but ususally sound better electrically).Lamination is fortification and if made properly with the right glues and press is MUCH stronger than a solid top. The Best, Ty M.
