60th Guitar Birthday

I was born on the Twelfth Day of Christmas. Sixty years ago today, I took my birthday money and bought myself a plastic ukulele at Dugan's Drugstore in Houston, Texas. I can still feel myself standing there… deciding not to spend the extra dollar on the one with the automatic, chord buttons. It felt like a good decision. I had no idea…

Happy Birthday John,

Thank you so much for sharing your time with Chet and providing so much insight about his music.

It's not surprising you were wisely questioning the value of store-bought harmony at a young age. On behalf of all of us beneficiaries of your curiousity, creativity and hard work, happy birthday!

Happy Birthday, John. I'm going to play the "Chihuahua Waltz" in your honor (WITH the business card trick...I'll never forget you showing us that at the first convention...!) Bill

Happy birthday John. My first stringed instrument was a small Silvertone uke. I still have it and play it from time to time.
