Hmmmm! How to improve on a Gretsch guitar?Buy and play a Gibson!Just kiddin' guys.I have Gretsches also but like Gibson's better. It's all a matter of what you're used to and grew up with.Just kiddin'!As far as lockin' strings in goes,I do know,it's a pain in the butt to get them undone from the tuner posts. I actually have a Fender American Standard Stratocaster with the tremolo tailpiece that pivots on the posts (instead of the older style that has six screws) and it stays remarkably well in tune when I use it, even for radical pitch changes. . . and I've never really had much of an issue with a Bigsby going out, as long as you don't use light strings - your mileage may vary, but ofttimes you can clean up the nut and make sure it's properly lubricated and it will stay true.

Have you tried a roller nut as a possible improvement on lubricating the nut?
