Replacement Pick Ups

Howdy All-

I have an awesome Washburn Washington J9 (335 style) with a Bigsby that I absolutely love. However the pick ups are pretty lifeless. I'm definitely looking for that wonderful Chet tone... Any suggestions as a good replacement pick up? Probably a filtron style PU, but I'm always open to any suggestion.

Thanks all!

TV Jones has made some great Gretsch style pickups He has a website, go there, see what he has and if you need answers ask him.

Mounting is always a consideration and bear in mind if you use, for example the same pickups as what's on a 6122-59 it won't sound like a 6122-59. It will sound like your guitar with those pickups in it.

I put these:

in a 335clone (Hamer), and they sound mighty mighty fine. Very close to Chet's late 50's early 60's tone.

If you want to hear them, I will come on the picker's chat and play for you some time. Let me know.

I don't know anything about the picker's chat but I would like to hear them. Any way you could post on the Audio or Video sections of the 'Board? Thanks. Billy

As it was mentioned down below, TV jones makes a variety of pickups that you might want to consider. They are reasonably priced and of top quality.
Here is the link to his web site.

I put two TV Trons (TV Jones Filtertrons) in my Ibanez AFS 75 to replace the original generic humbuckers. After that it sounded much more gretschy. Don´t hesitate to ask "dumb" questions, you´ll always get good answers from TVJ.

Vidar, I like what you said, in fact, there is no such thing as a "dumb question" .

In part, that is what the chetboard is about, we can as each other just about anything and if no one knows the answer, someone is almost sure to show us the way to find the answer. :D

Gary, I agree, no question is dumb. After I joined the Fretboard/Chetboard I´ve become much wiser (guitarwiser) than I ever could have imagined. There´s so much knowledge on this board and generous people to share it with us.

Absolutely NO such thing as dumb questions! The Chet Board is my first GO-TO place with anything Chet/Fingerstyle. Probably because of the NO SUCH THING AS DUMB qustions attitude here! ;) (And thanks for the pick-up advice!)

I bought a case of Ibanez Super 70 Humbucking Kits w/wiring & pots back in the mid 70's when we sold Ibanez copies, because copies were all they made back then. These pick-ups to this day are some of the highest output that I've ever seen at 550mV RMS, with a sweet tone to boot . . .
