Ray Butts humbucker question...
Today at CAAS, I ran into Ray Butts daughter. I mentioned that I had just bought a pickup from Chuck, and was going to drop it into one of my guitars. She asked if it was encased in epoxy...which it was. She said she is trying to find one that is not, as TV Jones would like to recreate that pickup, and needs to take one apart. If any of you have one, you might want to look her up.
Thanks,
George

I wonder how you can tell if it is encased in epoxy? I have one installed in my Gibson CG.

Should be pretty easy if you pull it and look at the underside.
Inventors cast the finished product in epoxy (looks like opaque plastic) to prevent the reverse engineering TV Jones needs to do to copy it.

Re: Ray Butts humbucker question...
I would be really surprised if there are any around that are not encased in epoxy. From what I have seen and heard Ray did this to everything that he built in his later years to prevent people from making copies of his designs. I had a Gibson Studio CE that had belonged to Paul. Ray built the pre-amp in it. It was encased in epoxy also.
