I could be thinking too much here but I believe this fellow has studied music theory. It looks like he's playing F MAJ7 but the chord actually functions as Dm9 with no root. He's gonna resolve Dm9 to G13#9 ( also with no root ) and then to C6/9 which would constitute a II V I progression in the key of C.

My long term memory may be playing tricks on me but it seems like I do recall that the Monkeys fired a guitar player very early in their career for playing too many complicated chords. I wonder if this is him.

Hope I've cleared things up a little :?

Since I dislocated my left middle finger a year or so ago at the first joint, I can't form those kind of chords anymore. I guess that chimp can. :)

It's entirely possible that he is working on an air guitar version of Cascade.

Roger,
Now that you mention, I wouldn't be surprised if that's what he's doing. Of course, there's also the possibility that if that photo was snapped 2 seconds later, we might have gotten the middle finger.

That's alright Norm, I ain't exactly playing to sell out crowds as a guitar player so I am used to that.

If you look at the thumb, it's almost certainly a Gmaj7. Not really enough room, even for the F#. LMark
