I attended a master class and concert conducted at Western Carolina University Fine and Performing Arts Center last Friday. It was conducted by jazz guitarist Frank Vignola and his accompanying guitarist Vinny Raniolo. The master class was primarily for the jazz guitar students at the university, and attended by a few of us old timer's. He had a lot of good sound advice for the students about getting started after they graduate and how best to conduct their progress in the music business. His concert was most enjoyable with many different genre of music including songs from swing jazz of Django Rhinehart, classical, Latin, Spanish, tin-pan alley, and all mixed with humor in the vaudeville style. In the second set he had the jazz guitar students join him on stage for a round-robin performance of "Take The A Train". Vignola appeared at CAAS 2012, and performed with Tommy Emmanuel on his PBS TV special.
