Hi Fellows,

the Baldwin 801 - that was on ebay for 10,000 $ is back on the road:

But now it looks like the seller became realistic!!!

I may get some heat from this comment but seriously $2500.00 for a "low-end" guitar. I love the comment on e-Bay that it's "a fine working piece of Modern Art" ... lol ... It was a cheaply made factory guitar then and still is. The only thing that makes this guitar what it is is the fact that Jerry Reed played one.Someone is going to pay $2500.00 for a cheap guitar and still not sound like him.The sound is in the the hands and soul. People like Chet and Jerry can play any guitar and still sound like themselves.

Absolutly!
I bought a H174 on craigslist a few months ago - for 125,00 $
Now that i have it my opinion on this guitar is like yours.
You can get the reed sound if you keep playing and practicing.
But thats not all.
Now if i order a prismatone - all in all the guitar costs at about 500 Euro - thats ok for me.

But a lot of 801-sellers know this forum here and try to make money with the hunt for the baldwin.
Thats a bad thing for Jerrys legacy...

Hi, I found one of those Harmony H-174s too and had the Prismatone from Sam mounted, re-worked the neck to 1 7/8, radiused the fret board and re-fretted the guitar. Spent almost $1,000 all together. Was it worth it? Well, I still don't play like Jerry or Chet and the guitar is no great shakes unplugged (although it is extremely playable and the intonation is dead on) but the combination of pickup and guitar sounds pretty good. It won't make me a better player but I do enjoy playing it and trying to get closer. Most of this is done for our own entertainment anyway. We each approach it a little differently.
