Re: Paul Yandell cgp, 1935-2011
So sorry to hear this news. I've been praying for the family. I will continue to pray that God will comfort the family. Paul was one of the great guitarist and the best friend and most informative person the Chetboard has known. We will really miss him.
Thanks,

So very sad. All of my original guitar heroes are now gone.
My thoughts and prayers go out to the family and close friends of this fine man and legendary picker.

Micah called me early this morning with the news and I too am heartbroken. As many on this forum know, Paul was one of the best friends I ever had. He was like a brother to me for 34 years. I know he is in a better place now and his pain and suffering is over. What a reunion he will have in Heaven and we will be there with him again one day, we can rejoice in that knowledge. On Music Row in Nashville, they called him "Pickin' Paul" - - what an appropriate name!
He was a super picker, loving husband, father, brother, and a most wonderful friend - - I will miss him. My heart goes out to his family who stood by him and cared for him through all this terrible illness. I will continue to pray for them in the days ahead. RIP Paul Yandell, CGP , you and I shall meet again one day.
In love and respect,
Gayle Moseley

I am so sorry to hear that Paul passed away. He was really nice to me and passed some time with me at a couple of the CAAS conventions. I always enjoyed hearing him play and tell stories about the time he spent with Chet and Jerry. This news brought some tears to my eyes. I am keeping his family in my thoughts.

Some memories of Paul.
I remember Gayle Moseley and his wife inviting me to lunch with Paul
At a convention in the 90s at the Sheraton. I was really nervous but Paul treated me really
nice and it was then that I saw the kind of person he was.
Go forward a few years and I remember and I was surprised he remembered me but he did.
Phil and I were at CAAS one year and he was playing my Sand at his table and I hadn't trimmed the strings at the head stock after putting them on. Paul looked up at me and said "you know people do cut those off". What a sense of humor.
He arranged for Phil and I to be on the Jerry Reed tribute at CAAS and gave both of us two very special gifts.
He was one of my heroes and I consider myself very lucky to have met him and to call him a close friend.
He was one in a million!!!!!!!!

He and I had a long correspondence about 'why doesn't Bigsby get rid of those ___ pins and just drill the bar straight through?"
He shared pix of modifications on his units and, in thanks for posting his pictures here on the Chetboard, he sent me one of his drilled Bigsby bars for posting the pictures for him. Unasked. thats' how he was...
Needless to say it's been on my guitar ever since...

May God's peace be with his family and friends who mourn his passing today. May God's comfort be with them in the days ahead. Although I never had the privilege of meeting him face to face, my impression of him was that his music was an expression of the quality of man he was. What a legacy he leaves to us all. He will be deeply missed by all those who had any encounter with him whether as a personal friend, mentor, guitar guru or simply through his correspondence here on the Chet Board.
