Here is the Hee Haw performance Tommy Jones gave in 1972 when he was 17.

Interesting that someone in the YouTube comments says that Tommy is playing Black Mountain Rag in that video. Sure doesn't sound like Black Mountain Rag to me.

It starts off almost like Orange Blossom Special, but it isnĀ“t that one either.

I believe that is "Dixie Hummingbird". Occasionally you can hear another guitar involved in the melody either off-camera or pre-recorded. Most of it is 'live' on the set pickin'. Regardless, it shows a very young articulate player on Hee Haw surrounded by his peers including Roy Clark.

Thanks

Tommy performed 'live' at Muriel Anderson's All Star Guitar Night playing "Yesterday", a stellar performance!

Yes, that YouTube clip is definitely "Dixie Hummingbird". I've heard him and watched him play it many many times.
It's too bad that Roy Clark's intro of Tommy wasn't included. It was quite entertaining. Also, this "Hee Haw" performance sounds to me like it was overdubbed from his record. It sounds too much like his recording of it in every little way down to the last little detail. The first time I saw him perform this I had no reference point. Now I've had several decades of listening to his actual recording of it.
