Hurricane Irene is lashing the coastline of North Carolina and headed up the east coast. We hope everyone in the path of the hurricane comes through unscathed. Chet's 1963 recording of "Goodnight Irene" seems appropriate to play this weekend.

The sound that Chet achieved on that recording and others of that period eludes me. Beside Chet's unique touch I don't know how much it had to do with his guitar setup, the supertron PU, other devices, or in the recording technique. I've never heard anyone but Chet get that sound and I would be interested in hearing more about the Chet magic of those recordings.
