I was fortunate to get to meet Billy when I was in KY visiting Eddie and others. Billy was a well rounded entertainer and was very personable to be around. He will be missed. I have already listened to Gotta Travel On about 3 times this morning.

There are several videos of Billy Grammer on Youtube. In one of them, he gives a little of the history of Grammer Guitars and picks Misty on one of them. He had a nice personality that came through in that video. Here is a link to him playing a solo version of It Had To Be You.

Although Billy Grammer used a flatpick, he had some influence on me. Not nearly as much as Chet, Merle, Jerry & Paul but I had all of Billy's gospel guitar LP's.

Other than Chet, Billy's guitar pickin' had more influence on me than any other player. His two Gospel guitar albums back in the 60s have been a source of enjoyment and learning for me over and over. I wrote to Billy a few years ago to tell him how much I appreciated those recordings. He sent me a nice reply that included the copy of a newer guitar
cd that he'd recorded.

Dwayne Friend told me one time that my guitar playing reminded him of Billy Grammer. That was one of the highest compliments I have ever received, but of course, I didn't believe a word of it. I know better. Dwayne was just being nice.
